About Me:
My name is Ximena Giol Garcia, and I was born on the 20th of January 2004 in Mexico, Villahermosa. My mother is Mexican and my father is Argentinian and since I was born I haven’t stopped travelling. Being raised alongside my little sister, with such different cultures with their own costumes, dialects, and traditions, I have learned to respect every new approach to life that is presented to me. I have lived in 4 countries, 6 cities, and changed schools 8 times and I still have the urge to look for more of everything and keep moving to get to know more cultures and lifestyles and that is part of what has drawn me to the Beyond Lagartococha project.
I have now lived for about 4 years in Quito, Ecuador, and I have found a new community, one that accepts me and my family, regardless of our nationality. This project has given me the opportunity to give back in some way to what Ecuador has offered me and my family; the opportunities and life this country and their people have given us.
This project and the work that has been done has opened my eyes to the endless possibilities of helping others we have on our hands. It has opened a possibility for me to help the Secoyas and the natural patrimony that surrounds them. Ever since I was little, I remember loving nature and what it holds. Still today I feel that respecting what surrounds us is one of the most important things we need to live by and the Secoya community and this project has taught me that this is a good thing.
I am now more aware of what I am capable of and how I can use that knowledge and those skills to help others in such a unique experience. Working with the 4th and 5th BSQ generation I have learned how to plan fundraisers and events that ultimately are not only fun but also for a great cause. Thanks to this experience I have created a bond with my Beyond Lagartococha group and developed a passion and liking for service and community projects.
