Get to know me
My name is Valeria Vivero and I am 17 years old. I was born in Chile in the year 2001 were my Ecuadorian parents currently lived. After several years I came to live in Quito, Ecuador which is the place I consider my hometown. I have two younger sisters with whom I enjoy being with. My family is the most esencial and important part of my life since they have been there for me in all posible ways supporting me. Now I am a senior soon to graduate in the year 2019. Ecuador is a country located in South America that has many biodiversity of flora and fauna all around the country. Ecuador has the Andes, the coast and the rainforest which each has a different characteristic and climate. I love my country and I love traveling in Ecuador to know more about my country.

Each time someone mentions the word Community Service I always want to help or try to get involved. When I was small an Indigenous woman worked in my house and took care of me and she was struggling to get the money she needed to buy the things for her daughter which was living far away from her in the city of Otavalo; I unconsciously gave her my clothes that I not longer used to her so that she dress her daughter, and told her she would look really pretty. I could not really understand what was happening since I was very young, but when I started growing up I realized that I am willing to help others so they can have the same opportunities I have. Many times during my life I have always been there to help and support other people. Throughout my school year, my school has offered different activities of Community Service and each experience showed me something new to apply in my life. Outside school I have have had incredible experiences helping in schools, orphanages, houses and other amazing places. What I love the most about helping others is the smile on the people have on their faces when you simply give them a hug, and that fills my heart. This made me realize that the smallest things and actions in life counts.

BEYOND LAGARTOCOCHA SECOND GENERATION
When I found out second generation of Beyond Lagartococha was going to be created I talked to Juliana Pallares, the founder, to see how I could become part of the group. I had read a lot about this project before getting into the group and the purpose made sense to me in the way that everyone should have the same opportunities as me, as I mentioned earlier. We have organized different events to raise money to pay the teacher and to buy the materials and things the Secoya community needs. I feel very privileged to form part of the second generation of Beyond Lagartococha. I can not wait to visit Lagartococha and Mañoco and see the community myself the next time we have a trip. This experience has been the most unique of all and I will learn a lot more each time about the Secoyas culture.
