About Me:
My name is Natalia Ortiz. I am the youngest of two and I was born in Venezuela in 2004. Although my family is Venezuelan I only lived there for the first two years of my life, as a small child we moved around and I was able to experience living in Argentina and Mexico before coming to Ecuador. We have lived here for 11 years and I can say Quito is my home. I’ve had the privilege of traveling around the country and witnessing the incredible beauty every region has to offer. I think that because I moved as a child, I love visiting new places and experiencing different cultures
During my years at school I’ve come to get involved with a few activities and projects that have greatly impacted my life like football and the diversity and equality committee. These have given me skills like discipline, collaboration and the courage to express my point of view. Although helping those in need and contributing to charity has always been a part of my family’s values, it was a couple of years back that I started to actively contribute. The earthquake in 2016 opened my eyes to need there is for change. We should establish a culture where philanthropy and charity are part of life, not only a response to tragic events. The pandemic and economic situation of my home country have also pushed me towards gratitude a different perspective on my life.
I understand the great impact that education has had on my life and the lives of others. It has allowed me to work towards dreams and aspirations like studying abroad. Because of this, I was keen to get involved in a project that allow me to learn about indegenous culture and facilitated an education to those who didn’t have the opportunity. Although the pandemic slowed down the project in my school, we learnt a lot about persistence and I have gained skills I would not have otherwise. Beyond Lagartococha has already given me a lot, I am excited to continue to contribute and continue to give back.
