Gabriela Ramon
About me
My name is Gabriela Ramon, and I am 15 years old. I was born in 2003 Bogota, Colombia, the city were my parents lived for almost 8 years due to their work and their studies. I lived there only my first year of life and then moved to Ecuador, the country I am currently living in and which I love and identify as home. All my roots are from different parts of this beautiful country, Ecuador, and I am the only one who wasn’t born here, but I really want to get to know more of Colombia because it has a lot of meaning to me. I live with my parents, and a little sister, and I really enjoy spending time with this little but incredible family. My close friends and family are the most important part of my life. I am a soccer player and a horseback rider, and in these both really different sports I have learned many things like teamwork, responsability, perseverance, and many more things. I could really say that sports are another big part of my life; they take most of the time in my days and they make me really happy.

I have been exposed to community service since I was little because my mom has been really engaged in it, and I have learned that causing smiles in other people’s faces is one of the most satisfying and fulfilling experiences. Then, in my school we also started working with community service and while I grew, I knew that I wanted to do more of it and maybe go farther and help people who had even less resources or opportunities.

When I first heard about Beyond Lagartococha, I was amazed about how a student had started such an incredible project that could really help people and change lifes. I started asking about it and I found out that it had the purpose of bringing education to the Secoya indigenous community who lived in the jungle. I have loved working with kids always and I love nature, so this project seemed more interesting each time. Some of my friends are part of the second generation and when I heard that they were looking for people to be part of the third generation, I was really excited and couldn’t wait for becoming part of this. Beyond Lagartococha has a big significance in my life because I know that everyday, these children of the communities we are helping, are getting closer to a better life full of opportunities. Even though I haven’t have the chance to go to these communities in the jungle, I love helping them and can’t wait to go. I love being part of these amazing project and I know that I will grow as a person and learn many lessons from it.
