Andrea Bustamante
My name is Andrea Bustamante. I was born in 1999 in Seattle, USA. I am the first of three siblings. My two siblings are Ana and Alberto. I have lived in Ecuador since I was two years old. The first two years I lived in Seattle. Then I lived in Ecuador, in the province of Napo. My grandfather, the father of my mother, loves nature and he is inspired especially by Ecuador’s jungle, the Oriente. He came to Latin America from Switzerland, where he found my grandmother at Peru and fell in love. They had two girls, one of them my mother. Unfortunately my grandmother died when my mom was 7 years old. Then he decided to come to the Oriente. He started a new business with only four bedrooms, which is now a successful hotel called La Casa del Suizo. He got really interested in tourism and that is why he builded another hotel in the middle of the jungle, Sacha Lodge. For these reasons, I have always been connected with the amazon. I lived two years in La Casa del Suizo. Here I started playground; all my friends where natives from Ahuano. I was one of them. I loved living there, we would go to the rio Napo and climb the rock to then jump. I felt free. There was no danger. When I was four years old, my family decided to move to Quito. Still, we visited Ahuano twice or more times a month, and we spent the whole summer there. I started studying at Colegio Menor when I turned nine. I met Ana Belen and Adam first. Then Juliana came to the school in the first year of middle school. In 10th grade we decided to join and form a group with two other friends in another school, we created Beyond Lagartococha. We all had different reasons, but something similar, we love to help others. Community service is something that can change your view of life. I am grateful that I was raised in the oriente, it describes me as a person and it has really involved in the person I have turned today.
