Ana Belén Ortiz

My name is Ana Belén Ortiz, I am 17 years old and I was born in Quito, Ecuador. I am currently a senior at Colegio Menor and I will be soon graduating in July 2018. I’ve lived my whole life here in Ecuador together with my parents and my two older bothers.
I can proudly say that Ecuador has been the best country to live in and grow up. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a tiny country located in the northwestern tip of South America. Despite its size, it is one of the most biodiverse countries in the planet. In only 283,560 km² you can encounter anything from the Galapagos wildlife, to the beautiful beaches and rich agriculture, to the breathtaking mountain ranges, and the magnificent landscapes and animals from the jungle. Apart from the beautiful flora, fauna and landscapes that form part of my country, you will find the nicest and most caring people. Ecuadorians will always be willing to help you, and you’ll probably make friends with anyone you talk to.
Unfortunately, a massive part of our population lives under extremely poor conditions. This is one of the main reasons I decided to join Beyond Lagartococha: to help the most needed areas of our country. I have always seen community service as something necessary and heart filling. When I got invited to join the project, I did not hesitated for a second and immediately accepted the proposal. After living through the process of helping those in need and receiving tons of smiles back, I have started to view life in a different way. I learned that the smallest details in life are the ones we should cherish and treasure the most.
